UNHCR Refugee Data 1.7

For over seven decades, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), in collaboration with governments and partners, has been diligently compiling data on refugees, stateless individuals, and those compelled to flee their homes.

Through the utilization of accurate and timely data, both UNHCR and its partners can make well-informed decisions, allocate resources more efficiently, tailor communication strategies, advocate effectively, and exhibit transparency and accountability to beneficiaries, partners, and donors.

UNHCR currently produces and utilizes diverse data sets and statistics concerning refugees, individuals subject to forced displacement, affected populations, and stateless persons. These datasets include information on:

• The humanitarian context and broader landscape (encompassing social, economic, political, legal, and policy aspects);
• Affected populations (focusing on their numbers, whereabouts, characteristics, vulnerabilities, and specific needs);
• Operational details regarding the implementation of protection and assistance measures within a specific response framework.
